Digital history of Russia
The Presidential Library is a new partner of the Bavarian State Library

In June 2007 the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin gave an order on the establishment of a new library in St. Petersburg named in honor of the first President of the Russian Federation, Boris Yeltsin. Two years later, on the 306th anniversary of St. Petersburg, it was inaugurated by the President Dmitry Medvedev.

The results of the first round of the “Russia in the electronic world” Olympiad summed up in the Presidential Library

The first round of the “Russia in the electronic world” Olympiad of the Presidential Library is completed. The public relations service of the library informed the “Baltinfo” that the second round will be attended by the senior high school students and students of the primary and secondary vocational schools from fifty four regions of the Russian Federation. The second round of the “Russia in the electronic world” Olympiad is held from December 19, 2011 to January 30, 2012. The participants who will gain the greatest number of points will be invited to St. Petersburg. The Presidential Library will host the final round and the awarding ceremony for winners.

Rare books from the presidential collection are now available for Blagoveshchensk residents

Users can visit the electronic reading room of the regional library absolutely free. Recently, the Amur Regional Library held the opening ceremony of the regional center of access to the Boris Yeltsin Presidential library resource or the electronic reading room. Now, rare editions from the Presidential library’s collections are available to the library’s visitors.

Electronic Reading Room of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library opened in the Pacific State University. The state-of-the-art electronic library is now available for all the residents of Khabarovsk. The Presidential Library celebrates the jubilee of M. V. Lomonosov

17 November, on the eve of the birthday anniversary of M. V. Lomonosov, the Presidential Library held a series of events devoted to the eminent scholar. The multimedia hall of the library hosted a video lecture center. The first lecture for senior high school students of St. Petersburg delivered Director of the Linguistic Research Institute under the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician N. N. Kazansky. His speech “Lomonosov as a reformer of the Russian language” was broadcasted life on the Presidential Library’s portal.

Municipal Electronic Library opened in Khabarovsk

It is the first municipal electronic library in the Far East and the sixth in Russia. “Foreign View” photo contest winners to be awarded in the Presidential Library

In the context of the “Dialogue: Russia – Republic of Korea” International Forum, 1st November the Presidential Library will sum up the results of the II International Photo Contest “Foreign View”. Winners of various nominations will be awarded with prizes. Photographs submitted to the contest which comply with the subject area of collections will be included into the library’s electronic archive. The awards will be handed to contestants by consuls of those countries which supported the photo contest.

A branch office of the Presidential Library to be open in Novosibirsk

Governor of Novosibirsk Region Vasiliy Yurchenko and the Director General Deputy of the Presidential Library Sergey Makeev discussed the development of co-operation between the region and the library. The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library is the first national electronic library providing access to rare archival documents. The electronic holdings of the library include over 100, 000 items of electronic copies of the most rare historical documents and books, as well as little known archival materials previously inaccessible for the general public.

The Russian Primary Chronicle in 3D

11 October in the L. N. Tolstoy State Pedagogical University, Tula, took place the signing of Co-operation Agreement between the University and the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library, and an opening ceremony of the Electronic Reading Room.

Let us note, that the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library is one of the three national libraries of the Russian Federation. The library was granted this status in 2008 having become thus the third national library in the country. Another two are the Russian State Library in Moscow and the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg.

The Electronic Reading Room which provides access to unique collections of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library to students opened on Tuesday at the State Pedagogical University of Tula, informed the RIA Novosti Maria Malysheva, university’s representative. A book online. Unique electronic library operates in St. Petersburg

The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library housed in the former Synod building is an unique institution which combines science, education and high technology. There are no counterparts in the world. The tasks are large-scale too: create a single information space in Russia and become a connecting link for all the libraries in the country.

The resources of the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg are now available for the students of the Federal University of Archangelsk

The students of the federal university of Archangelsk will now have an opportunity to use resources of the Presidential Library of St. Petersburg. Today the North Arctic Federal University presented the Electronic Reading Room whose visitors will gain access to the resources of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library of St. Petersburg. According to the University's web site, the access to the up-dated reading room will be available not only to students and professors of the university, but also to all residents of Archangelsk and its region as soon as they have a library ticket.

Digital libraries of Russia and Germany have agreed on information exchange

Two largest digital libraries of Russia and Federal Republic of Germany have agreed on cooperation. In the end of June they will sign an agreement under which the libraries will exchange information about the Russian history. Two leading digital libraries of Russia and Federal Republic of Germany – the Bavarian State Library and the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library are going to conclude an agreement on cooperation. The document will be signed 28 June in Munich by Directors General of the libraries, Rolf Griebel and Alexander Vershinin in the presence of Andrei Grozov, reported the German party on Tuesday, 21 June. As a part of the agreement, the largest digital libraries of Russia and Germany will exchange information on digital carriers treating of Russian history.

Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library announces the start of the II International contest of genre, reportage and documentary photographs for professionals and amateurs Foreign View. According to the Library’s press service a part of the photographs selected by experts will be included in the collections of the Presidential Library.

Institute of Peter the Great opened in St. Petersburg

The Institute of Peter the Great was inaugurated today in the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library.

The event was attended by members of the municipal government, a writer Daniil Granin, attendees of the III Congress of Peter’s cities. At the first meeting were presented the objectives of the Institute. The major one is the study and promotion of Peter’s heritage. Besides scientific and publishing activities, the leaders of the Institute are going to restore the tradition of celebrating Peter’s birthday anniversary as a marked city-wide event, informs “Vesti SPb”. Today the Institute presented one of the elements of the future ceremony: carrying out the flag of “The way of Peter the Great” Russian program. Russian Science and Culture Center opened in Bishkek

Kirgizia has become the 74th country where the Rossotrudnichestvo opens the Science and Culture Center of the Russian Federation. The facility is located in the heart of the city, near the monument to a famous commander Mikhail Frunze whose name had belonged to the capital of Kirgizia for a long time. Electronic reading room of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library has opened in Kostroma. Today it was solemnly opened at Kostroma Nekrasov State University. The electronic reading room is a classroom equipped with 10 modern computers which provide access to the library’s holdings numbering over 50 thousand digitized copies of old manuscripts, rare maps, newspapers and photo albums. RF Minister of Justice: The country faces the same problems as in early 20th century

The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library in St. Petersburg has held a scientific conference "The idea of the legal state in Russia: History and Modernity ", marking the 150th birthday anniversary of P. A. Stolypin. Participants discussed the possibility of using the experience of the law reformation to strengthen the modern legal state. The plenary session was opened by the Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation Alexander Konovalov. He stressed that now, the same way as in early 20th century, the country faces the problem of modernization of all spheres of economic and social life, and therefore the mechanisms of law making and enforcement should be improved. The conference continued in breakup groups. The Presidential Library hosted two groups: "Ideas and problems of legal statehood in Russia in light of the heritage of P. A. Stolypin" and "Development of the judicial system as a basis for forming the rule of law".

The Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library showed “Open Space”

Presidential Library celebrated the 50-th anniversary of the flight of Yuri Gagarin with an exhibition “Open Space”, which opened in Saint-Petersburg on Monday. Within the framework of exhibition historical chronicles and modern films about space would be shown. Presidential Library would show photos of space made by cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev and paintings of winners of the competition “Space by children eyes”. Four regions of the Far East signed an agreement with the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library to establish regional branches

Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy to the Far East of the Russian Federation Victor Ishaev acquainted with the establishment of Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library branches in the regions of the Far East. According to the information given in the office of Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoy there are four signed agreements between the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Kamchatka, Khabarovsk Territory and Magadan Region. There are also prepared projects of the relevant agreements by the executive authorities of Primorsky Krai, Amur Region, Sakhalin and Chukotka.
