Authorities and society on the eve and during the Great Patriotic War
Scientific researches, official documents, materials on agitation represented in this section, show different aspects of power structures activity during the war (particulary ideological job on mobilization of all coutry's forces for struggle against enemy) and people life on home front.
Allies of the World War II
The materials of this section reflect the main stages of cooperation between the USSR, USA and Great Britain during the World War II on the diplomatic front as well as on the battlefields. The special attention is conferred to the International conferences (Teheran, 1943; Yalta, 1944; Potsdam, 1945) and the relationship between the USSR and USA in the context of economical collaboration, especially to the activity of polar convoys, the aerial communication between Alaska and Siberia, the supplies under the Lend-Lease program vie the territory of Iran. The gem of the collection is the photographs provided to the Presidential Library by the Library of Congress.
The might of the Russian arms: military operations during the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945
The section represents the materials covering the course of the war in different areas of the battlefront; activities of particular arms of the service and particular battles of the Great Patriotic War. The special attention is conferred to such significant operations as Leningrad defense (1942-1944); battle of Moscow (September 1941 – January 1942); defense and liberation of Sevastopol; Stalingrad and Kursk battles; liberation of western territories of USSR; Vistula-Oder offensive and battle in Berlin.
People’s volunteer corps in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945
The section covers the features of formation and activities of volunteer corps, destructive battalions, partisan detachments. The special attention is conferred to the documents from the Russian State Historical Archives related to the war of 1812 which demonstrate the traditions of people’s contribution to the defense of Fatherland.
Fatherland Defenders: alive and fallen
The section contains legislative acts, related to social support of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, materials regarding casualties of the USSR on the frontline and occupied territories, and war heroes and prisoners of war.
War on the pages of regional and battlefront press
The section includes texts of regional and frontline newspapers of war time, which shed the light on the course of war and life of the home front in different areas.
