Mikhail Lermontov (1814–1841)

Collection, timed to the anniversary of Mikhail Lermontov, contains materials that reveal the diversity of the individual genius of the poet, his role in the cultural life of Russia. The collection includes books and periodicals containing the texts of Lermontov’s works, researches about his life and work, as well as postcards and photographs depicting the monuments to the poet, the places associated with his name. Of particular interest are the reproductions of paintings and drawings by Mikhail Lermontov, which make to know him not only as a poet, novelist, playwright, but also as an artist. Special attention is given to Illustrations of Mikhail Lermontov’s works made by famous artists, designs of decors and costumes for the most famous production of the play "Masquerade", whose director was V. E. Meyerhold, and the painter – A. Ya. Golovin.

The collection was build up using the materials from the collections of the Fundamental Library of the A. I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University, Saint Petersburg State Theatre Library, Library of St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts, Russian State Library, Moscow Regional State Scientific Library, Tyumen Regional Scientific Library, Children's Museum of postcards and private collections.
