Opened on May 1, 1937, in memory of the famous Soviet writer N. A. Ostrovsky. The museum occupies 1018 square meters. square meters, has 550 square meters of exhibition space, more than 37,000 exhibits. Its collections include rare books, household items, arts and crafts of the late 19th - early 20th century, documents, iconography, numismatics of the Soviet era, paintings, drawings (represented by such authors as A. Y. Kravchenko, E. Kibrik, S. Brodsky).
