Presidential Library tells about celebration of Day of Russia

On 12 June our country celebrates a public holiday - Russia Day. On this day in 1990, the First Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the RSFSR. In addition to proclaiming the state sovereignty of the republic, the declaration contained a number of other important provisions: for the first time in the RSFSR, it recognised the equality of political parties and public organisations, proclaimed the principle of separation of powers, recognised the need to significantly expand the rights of autonomous republics, autonomous regions and districts, as well as the territories and regions of the RSFSR.
