The Presidential Library to open a center of access to its resources in Artek

September 16, 2018 at 11.00 the International Children's Center "Artek" will host the opening of a remote electronic reading room of the Presidential Library, which will provide free access to its richest collections, which number about 640 thousand items. Electronic collection of unique documents on the history of the Crimea from ancient times to the present day holds a unique position on the Presidential Library portal.

The collection of the Presidential Library "Republic of Crimea: Pages of History" contains studies, essays, archive materials, rare books, photographs of the peninsula.

The history of Crimea has always interested scientists. The evidence is a rare work by the Polish bishop Adam Narashevich "Taurida, or Izvestia of the past and the present state of the Crimea and its inhabitants today", published in 1788.

Information about what happened on the peninsula half a millennium ago is available on the portal Presidential Library in Ivan Kalugin's book "Diplomatic relations of Russia with the Crimea during the reign of John III" and in the "Ancient book of the Crimean embassy affairs of 1474-1505".  

The collection "Antiquities of the Southern Coast of the Crimea and the Taurida Mountains" by the remarkable Russian scientist, geographer and ethnographer Peter Keppen, published in 1837 and dedicated to "His Imperial Highness the Sovereign Crown Prince Grand Duke Alexander Nikolayevich" published extensive material on the antiquities of the Crimea, which has not lost its academic significance to the present day. The collection details the location of each object in the southern part of the peninsula, including fortifications and defences, monasteries and other architectural attractions. Thanks to the Presidential Library collections you can see the Crimea of ​​the late XVIII century through the eyes of Pavel Ivanovich Sumarokov - his book "Journey Throughout the Crimea and Bessarabia in 1799" is also represented in the collection; to go to Sevastopol together with Nicholas I or ride in a carriage to Bakhchisarai with the empress and the Grand Duchess thanks to "Description of the residence of the imperial family in the Crimea in September 1837"; and perhaps solve the mystery of the death of Alexander I - "Detailed description of the journey of Emperor Alexander Pavlovich to Taganrog, Crimea, the Caucasus Mountains and stay in the localities there, as well as his sickness of the last days of life, the death and burial of him ..." is available on the library’s portal.

Unknown pages of the Crimean War will be unveiled in unique books "The Landing of Enemies in Crimea and the Battle of Alma" (1854) and the “Crimean Expedition” (the story of an eyewitness of the events of those years, the French general) presented in the collection of the Presidential Library.

The Presidential Library pays much attention to the materials revealing the history of the regions of the Russian Federation. Currently, regional electronic collections contain documents on all 85 subjects of our country. In addition, to date, the Presidential Library has opened more than 600 centers of remote access in all regions of Russia.

In Crimea, the centers of remote access to the Presidential Library collections are running on the basis of the I. Y. Franco Crimean Republican Universal Research Library in Simferopol, MBUK "Centralized Library System" in the town of Chernomorskoye. In addition, four centers of remote access run in the city of federal importance Sevastopol. Thus, the remote reading room in the International Children's Center "Artek", which opens on September 16, 2018, will be the seventh in Crimea.

Same day, September 16, at 16:30, in the International Children's Center "Artek", a charitable concert will be held at Suuk-Su Palace. The first international music festival "Palaces of Crimea - Palaces of St. Petersburg" will provide the musical and educational project “Peninsula of Treasures” for children in “Artek”. The program includes performance of the Italian quartet of saxophones under the control of Federico Mondelchi; the academic ensemble of Russian folk instruments "Style Five"; violinist, art director of the Festival of Merited Artist of Russia Maria Safaryants. The mysterious side of the Crimea will be described to children by the writer, TV host, author of the exhibition "Russia is my History" Alexander Myasnikov. The project has been implemented using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society provided by the Foundation for Presidential Grants.
