Wintry February 1917 – Sergei Miroshnichenko’s period film to be screened at the Presidential Library

17 October 2018

On October 17, 2018 at 13:00 the Presidential Library holds a screening of the documentary film-investigation by Sergei Miroshnichenko “The Dno” and a meeting with the author of the film. There will be also held a discussion with the film’s director, which will bring together scientists, historians, art critics and culture experts from different regions of the country.

Miroshnichenko’s film narrates about the tragic events of 1917 in Russia. This is a chronicle and rethinking of the events of the February revolution from today’s perspective.

Guchkov, Milyukov, Rodzianko and others - their political views and their role in overthrowing of monarchy are centered in the film by Sergei Miroshnichenko. It helps to understand the root motives of the revolution. "The Dno" is the name of the film and the railway station, near which the last Russian emperor abdicated the throne. The director believes that the February revolution is much more controversial than the October revolution, and today we should detail both of them.

The authors are focused on documentary sources - diaries and memoirs re-enacting February 1917. At the same time, the game component accompanies the story - starring Marat Basharov, Alexander Lykov, Sergey Chonishvili, Alexander Gordon, Polina Odintsova, Vladimir Grammatikov and other actors. After watching the film, viewers, both those who came to the screening at the Presidential Library and those participating via video conferencing mode, will discuss what they filmed. Heads of St. Petersburg universities, cultural institutions, church representatives, students of historical and cinema studies faculties, as well as their colleagues from other cities of Russia will take part in discussion.
