The music of the era of Alexander III, emperor - patron of the arts, to be performed in the Presidential Library

On October 26, 2018, at 19:00 the Presidential Library (Senate Square, 3) will host the regular concert of the musical and educational project “Music of the Russian Statehood” dedicated to the era of Tsar-reformer Alexander III.

Alexander III was not only a great politician, but also lover, disseminator of the arts in the Russian Empire. He played the trombone and baritone-helicon professionally, highly appreciated the music of P. I. Tchaikovsky, the participants of the Mighty Group — N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, M. P. Mussorgsky, A. P. Borodin, Ts. A. Cui, M A. Balakirev. His concern was the widespread support of national musical culture. Alexander loved Russian folk instruments and even introduced the balalaika as necessary instrument for the soldiers of the Russian army. The writer and historian Alexander Myasnikov will tell about the most interesting aspects of the personality of the emperor-peacemaker.

The musical part of the event will include masterpieces of Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Glinka, performed on folk instruments. Virtuosos from the Orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments will open up completely new facets of classical music.

The musical band “Unisson Balalaek” will enhance the concert.

Honored Artist of Russia Natalia Shkrebko (domra) and Olga Krasnitskaya (harps) will perform as soloists this evening.

The romances that P. I. Tchaikovsky dedicated to the emperor's wife, Princess Dagmar, will be performed by Honored Artist of Russia, star of the Mariinsky Theater soprano Olga Trifonova. The exciting baritone and bright artistry of the soloist of the Mariinsky Theater Grigory Chernetsov will hardly leave anyone indifferent.

The project “Music of the Russian Statehood” is a cycle of ten multimedia concerts accompanied by a fascinating narration of the historian Alexander Myasnikov, which has been implemented using a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society provided by the Presidential Grants Foundation.

All the events take place in the Presidential Library.

The concert will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library portal in the “Live broadcast” section.
