The Presidential Library welcomes film director Alexei German Jr.

March 11, 2019 the Presidential Library is welcoming film director Alexei German Jr. as well as his wife and colleague, production designer Elena Okopnaya. A talented family will talk about the career choice, share the details of teamwork and answer questions from the audience. The event will begin at 14:00 and will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library’s portal in “Live Broadcasts” section and on the VKontakte social network.

Alexei German Jr. was born in the famous cinematographic family of the director Alexei German Sr. and scriptwriter Svetlana Karmalita. He graduated from the directing department of VGIK (2001), and is the author of such films as Garpastum, Paper Soldier, Under Electric Clouds, and others. His last full-length film Dovlatov, which tells of several days of the writer’s life was highly appreciated by critics. The work of Elena Okopnaya, who also participated in the creation of the film, won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival in 2018.

Alexei German Jr. has become a guest of the Presidential Library more than once. In particular, in February 2014, together with Svetlana Karmalita, he took part in a press conference devoted to the film by Alexei German Sr. “Hard to Be a God”. In addition, in 2017, the building on Senate Square, 3 screened the film “German. Through that side of the camera” as well as the presentation of the book “Bolshoy German”, which illustrates life and work of one of the most famous Soviet and Russian directors.
