
Presidential Library spotlights American diplomats in St. Petersburg
On March 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. the Presidential Library will hold a video lecture “American Diplomats in St. Petersburg during the Epoch of Great Reforms”, which is part of “The Knowledge of Russia” series of lectures. The event is co-organized by St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The first lecture of the series “Regions of the Russian State in the 18th – early 20th c.” will focus on the daily life and activities of American diplomats in St. Petersburg during the period, which began in 1861 with radical reforms both in Russia and in the USA.
Attendees of the lecture will learn a lot of interesting facts about some American diplomats, conditions, routine and their daily life in the capital of Russia, their social circle and acquaintances in St. Petersburg society, official and social duties etc.
Professor Vladimir Noskov, leading researcher of St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, PhD in History, and Ivan Kurilla, Professor of the European University at St. Petersburg, member of the council of the Russian Society of Historians of the USA, PhD in History, will take part in the video lecture.
The event will bring together students and teachers of the Faculty of History of the European University at St. Petersburg, the Faculty of History of A. S. Pushkin Leningrad State University, the Faculty of History and Social Sciences of Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University, the Institute of History and the Faculty of International Relations, St. Petersburg State University of Economics, St. Petersburg Institute of Foreign Economic Relations, Economics and Law, as well as seniors of the Diplomat School and teenagers of St. Petersburg Youth Center.
Participants from Moscow will have a chance to join the event via videoconferencing: students of the Faculty of International Relations of MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the Faculty of History of Lomonosov Moscow State University, students of the Faculty of History, Political Studies and Law of the Historical and Archival Institute of the Russian State University for the Humanities, seniors of school No. 1522 named after. V. I. Churkin, and school No. 1234.
The event will be broadcast live on the portal of the Presidential Library and via VKontakte social network in the official group of the institution.
