The Presidential Library’s Knowledge Forum - 2019: Education, History, Art

2–6 September 2019

Creative meetings with interesting people, literary and art workshops, the Naval Knowledge Day, cinema club meeting, workshop on diplomatic etiquette - these and many other events became part of the extensive program of the Presidential Library's traditional Knowledge Forum, which started on September 2 and will run until September 6, 2019.   

Within a week, experts in various fields of activity speak and share their experience in education, military affairs, architecture, history, geography, diplomacy and literature in the building on Senate Square 3.

The Knowledge Forum will be open on September 2 at 12.00 with an interview with the head of the Mikhailov Architectural Studio Grigory Mikhailov. The topic of the meeting was the history and restoration of the Synod building and the formation of the Presidential Library.

On the same day, a master class “Comics - from funny to serious. The story in the drawings”, prepared in conjunction with the Elvorin  Illustration Studio and the Book Chapel will be held. The participants of the event will learn not only about the history of the comic strip, but also, with the help of professionals, they will create elements of a graphic novel on the Tale of Bygone Years.   

September 3 the Presidential Library will launch a traditional scientific and educational conference “Naval Knowledge Day”, within the framework of which it will also be possible to visit the exhibition “Invincible Admiral: Holy Righteous Warrior Fyodor Ushakov”.

The master class on world art culture for senior students will be held by the winner of the “Teacher of the Year 2012” Contest Alexander Demakhin. The theme of the lesson with theatrical pedagogy "Talent of Double Vision" will be pictorial art of the famous Spanish artist Diego Velazquez.  

On Tuesday was held the grand opening of the exhibition “An Artist Against the Fuhrer: Fascism in the Caricature of Boris Yefimov. Marking the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II”.

A series of events of the Knowledge Forum on September 4 followed by the Presidential Library’s cinema club meeting on “Directing multimedia in the cinema space”, moderated by Lyudmila Nikitina, senior lecturer of the Department of Information Systems in the Arts and Humanities of the Faculty of Arts, St. Petersburg State University.

The Knowledge Day in the Field of Diplomacy was held at the Presidential Library on September 5. Leading specialist in etiquette and state protocol in Russia Ivan Artsishevsky invited everyone to a seminar on modern etiquette on the theme “Protocol of State Symbols”.

A round table on “Public Diplomacy and International Cooperation” was also be held with the participation of representatives of specialized departments of universities in St. Petersburg and the St. Petersburg Association for International Cooperation.

On the final day of the Knowledge Forum, September 6, as part of the lecture “Schooling in pre-revolutionary St. Petersburg: historical experience”, an assistant professor of Russian History at the Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University of Russia, Candidate of Historical Sciences Tatyana Pashkova will deliver her speech. In her report “Supervise and Punish: Disciplinary Practices in a Pre-Revolutionary Secondary School” she will present an author's study of pre-revolutionary education, when the social philosophical theory of the famous French philosopher Michel Foucault was popular (the title of the lecture uses the name of his book). It will be about the gymnasium form, issues of extracurricular supervision will be considered.

The results of the Presidential Library Knowledge Forum will be announced on September 6 at 14:00 at a meeting of the Round Table with the participation of representatives of student communities of Russia “Internet and the field of education: discussion about a safe electronic environment”.

September 2

12:00-14:00 – Conference Hall. An open interview with Grigory Mikhailov, head of the Mikhailov Architectural Studio, on the topic “History and restoration of the Synod building and the creation of the Presidential Library”.

14:30-15:30 – Multimedia Hall. Master class “Comics - from funny to serious. History in drawings” (together with the Book chapel with the participation of professional illustrators of children's books).

September 3

10:00-12:00 – Conference Hall. "Naval Knowledge Day in the Presidential Library" Conference (with the support of the High Command of the Russian Navy). Presentation of the exhibition “The Invincible Admiral: Holy Righteous Warrior Fyodor Ushakov”.

14.00 - 15.00 – Exhibition halls. The grand opening of the exhibition “The Artist Against the Fuhrer: Fascism in the Caricature of Boris Yefimov. Marking the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II”.

14:40-16:10 – Multimedia Hall. Master class “Double-Vision Talent” by the winner of the “Teacher of the Year of Russia 2012” Contest Alexander Demakhin on painting by Diego Velazquez with elements of theatrical pedagogy.

September 4

10:00-12:00 – Multimedia Hall. Cinema club meeting "Directing multimedia in the space of cinema" (jointly with St. Petersburg State University).

15:00-16:00 – Multimedia Hall. Master class of the writer Marina Lykova "Journey to the world of children's books".

September 5

12:00-13:30 – Multimedia Hall. Seminar on contemporary etiquette of a leading specialist in Russia on etiquette and state protocol Ivan Artsishevsky on “Protocol of State Symbols”.

15:00-17:30 – Conference Hall. Round table "Public Diplomacy and International Cooperation" with the participation of representatives of specialized faculties of universities and the St. Petersburg Association of International Cooperation.

September 6

12:00-13:30 – Multimedia Hall. Lecture "Supervise and punish: Disciplinary Practices in a Pre-revolutionary Secondary School" by associate professor of the Department of Russian History of the Herzen University of Russia, Candidate of Historical Sciences Tatyana Pashkova for senior students and humanitarian students.

14:00-15:30 – Conference Hall. Round table "Internet and the field of education: discussion about a safe electronic environment" with the participation of representatives of student communities in Russia.

Please note that admittance to the Presidential Library is possible only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: participants and guests of the event go through entrance №1, media representatives go through entrance №2.
