The Presidential Library devoted a series of multimedia lessons “The Science of Winning” to Alexander Suvorov

14 October 2019 – 30 June 2020

The Presidential Library provides schoolchildren of the 6–9th grades of St. Petersburg schools with a series of multimedia lessons “The Science of Winning”, dedicated to the 290th birthday of the great Russian commander, generalissimo Alexander Suvorov (historians still argue about the year of his birth: 1729 or 1730).

The first lesson started on October 14. It was about the resources of the Presidential Library on the history of Russian statehood of the second half of the 18th century, where a special collection is devoted to Alexander Suvorov and his exploits. He was a military commander who never lost a single battle. The collection contains digital copies of research, scientific and popular publications, collections of documents and visual materials.

The truly amazing personality of Suvorov and his military tactics have been studied for more than a century. They are based on the ability to conquer surrounding circumstances and overcome oneself.

As a child, Alexander did not have good health and his father predicted for him the career of an official. However, Suvorov was destined to become a military man. A nobleman from birth, he was able to quickly get the rank of officer, but decided to serve from the very beginning to experience the difficult fate of the Russian soldier. Knowing all the intricacies of the soldier’s service was the key to love for the generalissimo from his subordinates, who were ready to take any dangerous step for the sake of their commander. Suvorov never surrendered to the enemy: he participated in seven wars, spent 60 battles, without losing a single. In his own book “The Science of Winning”, Alexander Vasilievich formulated the tactics of the Russian army: “a good eye, quickness, onslaught”, which did not know defeat. He was awarded the highest military rank “generalissimo” for real feats.

At a lesson in the Presidential Library, the pupils watched and discussed the educational film “The Science of Winning. Alexander Suvorov”, performed the creative task using the interactive game “The Siege of Izmail” and tests on history in the electronic reading room.

The Presidential Library organized a multimedia lesson in conjunction with the Alexander Suvorov Memorial Museum in St. Petersburg, which provided materials for an educational film about the great commander.

In addition to providing pupils with unique sources of information, another task is to expand their knowledge of the famous Russian commanders, whose activities influenced not only the development of the Russian army, but also the fate of the country as a whole.

The lessons are aimed at developing adolescents' analytical thinking, the ability to summarize material and express their opinions. They are also designed to help educate the moral qualities of adolescents, their love for the Fatherland and respect for the history of their native country.

The classes are free for all interested pupils of St. Petersburg and regional educational institutions during the academic year. The duration of the lesson is 1 hour. Please pre-register by phone (812) 305-16-51 or send an email to: cep@prlib.ru.

Information on other topics of the multimedia lessons of the Presidential Library is available on the institution's portal.
