The Presidential Library's Poetry Club hosts virtual events marking the Victory Day

6–10 May 2020

The Presidential Library's Poetry Club has provided a series of virtual events marking the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Videos from the series "Lines before the battle: verses of Russian soldiers on the pages of military newspapers" are posted daily on the official page of the Poetry Club "VKontakte". The videos feature poetry from the front-line periodicals available on the Presidential Library’s Internet portal, and the newspapers “Sentinel of the North”, “Red Army strike”, “For the Glory of the Motherland”, “For the Enemy”, “Red Gunner”. These newspapers published poems of the Red Army, spotlighting the way they fought with the enemy, the way they brought Victory closer and waited for their return home, to their native cities and villages. For example, in the Krasnoarmeysky Udar newspaper (1943, issue No. 55 dated March 5), a separate section was devoted to frontline lyrics: https://www.prlib.ru/item/340520.

By analogy with the last year, the Poetry Club will host a virtual poetic marathon in honor of Victory Day “For Peaceful Peace in the World”. Anyone can join the marathon. One should forward the poems about the war to the VKontakte club group, accompanied by photographs of the war years and family stories. Materials of participants will be published in the club group from May 8 to 10. Applications are accepted in free form until May 10 inclusive. The marathon is held with the active participation of the regional centers of the Presidential Library in Rostov-on-Don, Novgorod Region, Crimea, Tyumen and other regions.

Live meetings will be held as part of the celebrations. Natalia Nikolaevna Yakovleva (Lev Gumilyov Museum-Apartment) will deliver her lecture “We walked the road of Russian glory” and an online meeting with the organizers of the patriotic campaign “The Word of the Poets of the Immortal Regiment” - representatives of the organizing committee of the International Children's Literary Contest “Dream Coast” (Leningrad Oblast Branch of the Union of Writers of Russia).

The schedule and broadcast of events is available in the Poetry Club’s official group.
