The new exhibition of the Presidential Library illustrates the Great Patriotic War

12 September – 10 October 2020

From September 12, 2020, the Presidential Library invites visitors to the exhibition "The Great Patriotic War, which determined the outcome of the Second World War. Marking the 75th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945". The exposition in the exhibition halls of the building at Senate Square, 3, will run for visitors until October 10, 2020.

The exposition covers the period from 1931 to 1945. More than 300 official documents, photographs, maps, periodicals, leaflets, books and graphic materials introduce the real course of military-political and diplomatic events of those years. They allow the visitor to create their idea of the causes, beginning and course of the Great Patriotic War in the context of the events of the Second World War.

The uniqueness of the exhibition is that its organizers offer to look at the war operations in a new way, namely to see in the events not a set of individual military conflicts and political negotiations, but a chain of interconnected historical realities.

The materials of the multimedia exhibition are arranged in chronological order and, based on documents, represent year after year a sequence of events that determined the background, the beginning, the course and, finally, the end of the Second World War.

It is possible to visit the exposition online, thanks to a special 3-D tour released on the Presidential Library's portal. An extensive collection of the materials used in the exhibition originates from the multimedia project of the same name, which was showcased at the International Press Centre during the Victory Parade on May 24, 2020.

The exposition involved documents provided by the Foreign Policy Archive of the Russian Federation, the Central Archives of the Federal Security Service of Russia, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library (USA), and the Chongqing Library (PRC). It also features rare books of the 1920s - 1940s, historical research and photo albums devoted to the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War from the collections of the Central Naval Library of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation and the Maxim Gorky Scientific Library of Saint-Petersburg State University.

The exhibition also includes unique documents of the unique information resource provided by the Presidential Library’s portal. It is the first part of a set of digitized archival documents, film and photo materials "World War II in archival documents", arranged by the Federal Archival Agency with the participation of archival services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation.
