The Presidential Library’s cinema club meeting to present premiere of the film "Marshal of Victory Govorov"

The Presidential Library’s cinema club meeting, dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day, will be held on February 24, 2021, at 16:00.

The film "Marshal of Victory Govorov" will be shown at the event for the first time. The hero of the Soviet Union, Leonid Alexandrovich Govorov, was often referred to as "our Leningrad marshal". From June 1942 until the end of the war, he was the commander of the Leningrad Front, led the breakthrough operations, and then the complete lifting of the siege of Leningrad.

The film directed by Vyacheslav Serkez tells about a legendary man of that great era who participated in the Civil, Soviet-Finnish and Great Patriotic War, going from a junior officer of a mortar battery to Marshal of the Soviet Union: who never changed his life principles, being an example of a Soviet commander, Chevalier of the highest military award of the USSR - the Order of "Victory".

The film is focused on the peculiarities of the formation and manifestation in the difficult conditions of that time of the personal qualities and organizational abilities of Leonid Govorov, his relationship with family, friends, comrades, as well as with the country's leadership and personally with Generalissimo Joseph Stalin. The film includes elements of newsreels, the display of unique materials (awards, photographs, personal belongings), interviews with members of the Govorov family and associates of one of the most effective military leaders of the Red Army.

The filming took place in places associated with the life of Leonid Govorov. The film group visited his homeland - in the village of Butyrki, Kirov Region, met with people who keep the memory of the marshal in Yelabuga, Simferopol, Vyborg, Moscow and other cities.

The event will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library’s portal in Live broadcasts section, in the Presidential Library’s cinema club on the VKontakte social network and on the institution's YouTube channel.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.
