Films and video lectures about Russian history available online on the Presidential Library’s portal

The Presidential Library’s portal from Monday to Friday in Live broadcasts section provides broadcasting of films, video lectures and tours prepared by the Presidential Library, as well as by leading film studios of the country.

A video about the collection of the Presidential Library "Emancipation Reform of 1861" will be shown in accordance with the broadcast program, on March 3, on the 160th anniversary of the signing in 1861 by Alexander II of the Manifesto on the Abolition of Serfdom in Russia. It includes publications covering the history of the peasant question in Russia, the preparation and implementation of the emancipation reform, revealing the identity of the reformers, as well as legislative documents, memoirs of contemporaries and journalistic works concerning the peasant question.

Also on March 3, but much earlier - in 1613 - the Zemsky Sobor elected Mikhail Romanov, laying the foundation for a new ruling dynasty. Video about the collection of the Presidential Library “The House of Romanov. 400th Anniversary of the Zemsky Sobor in 1613” will tell about the official documents, memoirs, diaries, business and personal correspondence, newsreel fragments, photographs, popular science films, historical research and other materials.

The theme of the House Romanov will be followed with the screening of the first and second parts of the popular science film "German Princesses - Russian Fates...", filmed at the Lennauchfilm studio. The documentary tells about the German princesses who became Russian empresses.

From March 1 to March 5, within the framework of the educational project of the Presidential Library Video lecture Knowledge of Russia a video lecture "Manuscript and printed book in Russia of the 16th-17th centuries" will also be offered to the attention of users.
