The Presidential Library to host Cosmonautics Day

On April 12, 2021, at 10:00, the Presidential Library will hold the traditional conference "Cosmonautics Day at the Presidential Library".

The event will be attended by representatives of the administration of St. Petersburg, the State Corporation "Roscosmos", the North-West Interregional Public Organization of the Federation of Cosmonautics of the Russian Federation, the Cosmonautics Museum of the Yuri A. Gagarin State Scientific Research-and-Testing Cosmonaut Training Center, scientists, cadets and students of educational institutions of St. Petersburg. Participants from other Russian cities will join the event via video conference.

The event is free. It will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library's portal in the Live broadcasts section, in the Presidential Library's cinema club group on the VKontakte social network and on the institution's YouTube channel.

In 2021, the national cosmonautics celebrates the 60th anniversary of the first manned space flight. The Presidential Library's Cosmonautics Day will be launched from space - the International Space Station will make a video greeting.

The event will be attended by Valery Tokarev, the pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of Russia, member of the Presidium of the Russian Space Society, full member of the International Academy of Astronautics. Conference participants will have an opportunity to ask questions both from the building on the Senate Square, 3, and the regional centres of the Presidential Library.

Cosmonautics Day will feature a screening and presentation of the short feature film ERA (Epoch). The film will be presented by Elena Dubrovskaya, the scriptwriter and director; producer Viktor Merkulov, the head of the "Cinema Lessons in Russian Schools'' project; and Oleg Skripochka, the pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of Russia.

Participants of the Cosmonautics Day at the Presidential Library will meet with Tamara Filatova, Yuri Gagarin's niece, Adviser to the Director of the Yuri Gagarin Integrated Memorial Museum. The veteran of the Baikonur Cosmodrome, honorary radio operator of the USSR Vladimir Kraskin will share the details of the launch of the Vostok-1 spacecraft on April 12, 1961. Then there will be a presentation of a new book about Yuri Gagarin by Alexander Milkus. 

The Presidential Library's portal provides the Outer Space collection, which features fragments of newsreels, periodicals, books, postcards, commemorative medals and badges that highlight the development of astronautics. The collection is regularly improved. The Presidential Library's specialists will present a review of the materials from the institution's collection "Marking the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's space flight".

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.

In order to reduce the risks of the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the use of personal protective equipment during the event is mandatory for all attendees.
