The Presidential Library’s cinema club meeting provides a meeting with director Vyacheslav Orekhov

August 30, 2021, at 16:00 the Presidential Library will host a cinema club meeting from the series Masters of Documentary Films, where the works of director Vyacheslav Orekhov and his film Life is Beautiful will be shown.

Organizing and holding meetings of the Masters of Documentary Films cycle is one of the important activities of the Presidential Library's cinema club, within which the contribution of prominent domestic documentary filmmakers to the national culture of Russia is revealed.

Vyacheslav Orekhov is a famous director, screenwriter, composer, photographer, artist, Honored Artist of Russia, academician of the Russian Academy of Cinematic Arts Nika, winner of many domestic and international film festivals. Rolan Bykov called him the best documentary filmmaker in Russia.

The leitmotif of Vyacheslav Orekhov's work is showing the characters and destinies of people against the background of Russia, their intense search for the meaning of life, the search for God. According to the director himself: "In my characters I was always attracted by the spirit, which makes a person human".

The film Life is Beautiful tells about the outstanding balalaika player, People's Artist of the Russian Federation Mikhail Fedotovich Rozhkov (1918–2018), who amazed those around him not only with his virtuoso playing, but also with his amazing love of life.

According to director, “the film about Mikhail Rozhkov presents a form of confession of a man and a musician looking back at his life in his declining years. In fact, this is an eternal theme of overcoming fate ... "Russian miracle", "Magician of music", "Paganini balalaikas" - such headlines were once full of newspapers from Moscow to Kamchatka, from America to Japan, where balalaika virtuoso Mikhail Fedotovich performed with triumph Rozhkov. His incomparable performance caused everyone's delight. Before his game, tsars and presidents bowed their heads ... The sounds of Rozhkov's magic balalaika always brought to the world Russian daring and Slavic sadness, delight in front of life and the drama of human fate, the whole gamut of human experiences...” Even while conceiving a film, Orekhov said that he would like to make a film, which "can be a breath of air for people, but for young people a spiritual guideline on how to build their lives with dignity…".

The cinema club meeting will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library's portal in Live broadcasts section, on the institution's YouTube channel, as well as on the page of the Presidential Library's cinema club on the VKontakte social network.

Entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only by prior registration and upon showing a passport: for media representatives - through entrance № 2, participants and guests of the event - through entrance № 1.
