The Presidential Library’s new exhibition tells about the history of the formation of the Russian fleet

27 July – 12 September 2022

As part of the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the birth of Peter the Great on the Russian Navy Day the Presidential Library has prepared an electronic exhibition "Peter I - the creator of the regular Russian Navy".

The exposition, based on the materials from the electronic collections of the Presidential Library (rare publications, archives, old drawings and other materials), is dedicated to the founding of the fleet and the role of the emperor in the development of Russian shipbuilding.

Visitors to the exhibition will learn how young Peter's interest in navigation and shipbuilding was born, what the Amusing Flotilla is, and where they first started building ships for the Russian fleet. Part of the exposition tells about the first naval military campaigns, as well as the victories of Russian sailors in the Northern War. Separately, the history of the founding of St. Petersburg and Kronstadt as well as the Admiralty are presented.

Of particular interest are digitized ship drawings and drawings from the unique collection formed by Peter the Great, which is now available in the Russian Academy of Sciences. Plasma panels present drawings of various ships (ships, yachts, etc.), their cross sections (midships), as well as views of the stern and bow parts, sculptural decorations - real works of art.

The electronic exhibition "Peter I - the creator of the regular Russian Navy" is open until September 12, 2022. The exposition is available for visiting to readers of the Presidential Library, as well as to everyone as part of the tours. One has an opportunity to sign up for a tour by phone (812) 334-25-14 or send an email to excursion@prlib.ru.
