Presidential Library invites visitors to expanded video lecture "Plant genetic resources: scientific and cultural-historical heritage"
On November 8, 2024, at 10:30 Moscow time, the Presidential Library will host an expanded video lecture titled Plant Genetic Resources: Scientific, Cultural and Historical Heritage as part of its Knowledge of Russia series.
The event is being held in collaboration with the N.I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Bureau of Applied Botany under the Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and State Property of the Russian Empire.
The Bureau of Applied Botany was founded as the legal successor to the All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources. From this institute, the scientific and technological development and provision of our country's food supply began - the well-known Vavilov collection of plant genetic resources, which not only holds scientific significance but also plays an important role in ensuring food security.
The history of the Vavilov Collection of genetic resources for cultivated plants is closely linked to events that reflect the influence of Russia on the global economy, politics, and cultural heritage.
The video lecture is taking place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the full liberation of Leningrad from Nazi Siege, as well as the upcoming 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, which makes it even more significant. The fate of many employees at the All-Russia Institute for Plant Genetic Resources has also been linked to these important dates.
