Video lecture at Presidential Library marks 130th anniversary of establishment of border guards church holiday

On December 18th, 2024 at 16:00 Moscow time, the Presidential Library will be hosting a lecture on the history of the Separate Corps of the Border Guard of the Armed Forces of the Russian Empire. The lecture will be given by Andrey Tovpeka, a candidate of historical sciences and lieutenant colonel of the reserve.

Tovpeka is also a methodologist for the educational department at the First Border Cadet Military College of the Federal Security Service of Russia. The lecture will focus on the history of this important military organization and its special holiday.

The Border Guard Corps was founded in 1893 and, on November 4th (December 21st), 1894, Russia officially recognized a special holiday to honor the defenders of its borders. This holiday is celebrated annually with prayer services in Orthodox churches and cathedrals across the country.

The lecture is part of the video series Knowledge of Russia, which continues a series of lectures on the history of our country's state security agencies. The aim of this series is to create a positive image of Russia and its domestic intelligence services.

During the lectures on the history of these agencies, students learn about outstanding agents, the most memorable, interesting, and significant operations and events in the history of Russian intelligence, as well as the main activities of these services.

The event is available for everyone. The meeting will be broadcasted on the Presidential Library’s portal in Live Broadcasts section, as well as on the Rutube-channel of the Library, on the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki.
