Conference at Presidential Library to be dedicated to history of creation and construction of Russian Navy

13 November 2025

On 13 November 2025, at 10:00 Moscow time, the traditional annual scientific and educational conference "Long Live the Navy!" will open at the Presidential Library. The event is timed to coincide with the 329th anniversary of the founding of the regular Russian Navy and will be dedicated to the history of the creation and construction of the Russian fleet.

The conference will be attended by representatives of the Main Command of the Navy, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the Maritime Council under the Government of St. Petersburg, the Russian Military Historical Society, and the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC). Cadets, Nakhimov Academy students, and students from Russian naval educational institutions have also been invited to participate.

Participants from various cities across the country will join the event at the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg via video conference.

The conference will feature presentations on the prospects for the development of the Russian Navy, the history and stages of the design process for submarines and deep-sea vehicles, and the specifics of the construction and testing of military ships and boats.

Participants in the event will learn about the contribution to the development of the fleet made by such major Russian enterprises as the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering, the Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau in St. Petersburg, the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard, the Northern Design and Engineering Bureau, the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau, the Zelenodolsk Design and Engineering Bureau, and the Granit-Electron Concern.

The conference will feature a presentation of the Presidential Library's electronic collection, "The Russian Navy: History and Modernity," which uses research and documents to trace the history of the Russian fleet from the first Russian naval expeditions to Constantinople. The extensive collection of documents relates to the imperial era: it includes the first decrees of Peter I, the founder of the fleet, as well as publications and research that reveal the role of the fleet in the creation of the Russian state and the defence of the Fatherland. A significant part of the collection is devoted to shipbuilding, including government decrees on the purchase of materials and ships abroad in the early 20th century. There is also a collection of authentic hand-drawn maps from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Anyone can join the conference "Long Live Sea Ships!" The event will be broadcast on the Presidential Library's portal in the "Live Broadcasts" section in accordance with the programme of live broadcasts of events, on the institution's Rutube channel, as well as on the library's social media pages on VKontakte.

The conference is organised by the Main Command of the Navy, the Admirals' Club, a regional public organisation of admirals and generals of the Navy of St. Petersburg, the Primorsky District Naval Lyceum of St. Petersburg, and the Presidential Library.
