About 200 schoolchildren have became the finalists of the Presidential Library Olympiad

The third and the final stage of the annual All-Russian interactive Olympiad on history, social studies and the Russian language named “Russia in the electronic world” will take place in the Presidential Library from the 14th to the 16th March 2017. About 200 school students from 47 regions of Russia and two foreign countries have become its finalists, passing the first two rounds of the Olympiad. Moscow and Moscow Oblast, St. Petersburg and Tyumen have traditionally become the leaders in the number of finalists. The school students from Sverdlovsk, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Orel and Rostov oblasts, the Udmurt Republic and the Republic of Buryatia, the Altai Territory and other regions of Russia, as well as from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, are also in the list of finalists.

About 5,000 school students from Russia and 10 foreign countries (USA, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkey) took part in the Olympiad this year, 1399 participants took part in the second round, of which the finalists were selected. According to tradition, the winners of the first two rounds will meet for the next round of competition on-site in the building of the Presidential Library in St. Petersburg and its branch in Tyumen. In addition, this year's finale will be held at other venues: on the basis of the Altai State University (Barnaul), the Moscow Regional State Scientific Library named after N. K. Krupskaya (Moscow region, Pushkino Town), the Orel Regional Scientific Library named after I. A. Bunin (Orel), Yeltsin Center (Ekaterinburg), the Don State Public Library (Rostov-on-Don), the National Library of the Republic of Buryatia (Ulan-Ude), the National Library of the Republic of Komi (Syktyvkar), the National Library of the Udmurt Republic (Izhevsk).

Apart the profound knowledge of the educational material of the school subjects, the tasks of the final round expect from the competitors a proving erudition and non-ordinary thinking. The third round includes several tasks: preparing an essay, comparing the texts of pre-revolutionary, Soviet and contemporary textbooks (history), text analysis (social studies) or a poem (Russian language), and also a writing composition. For each task participants are awarded points, the main evaluation criteria are correctness, completeness and accuracy of the answers.

The Olympiad of the Presidential Library on History and Social Studies is included in the List of Olympiads for schoolchildren, approved by a directive of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, which gives its winners and prize-awardees a right of preferential admission to the Russian universities. The Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Herzen provides organizational and methodological support of the project. Winners and prize-awardees on the “Russian language” will receive the additional points to the Uniform state exam upon their admission to the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Herzen.
