Ice slaughter from different points of view will be examined within the public video lecturing at the Presidential Library

Public video lecturing from the “Knowledge of Russia” series on “The Battle on the Ice: a look from the East and the West” theme will take place in the Presidential Library on April 18, 2017. Dedicated to the 775th anniversary of the Battle on Lake Peipus event will begin at 11 am and will be broadcast live on the library website.

Historian Denis Khrustalev will tell about the importance of the battle and the role that a figure of Alexander Nevsky played in the formation and strengthening of the borders of the Russian state. Video-conferencing lecture of the professor of medieval history, the head of the Institute of History and Archeology of the Tartu University of Anti Selart, will be focused on the significance of the Battle on the Ice in the context of the activities of the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Order in the middle of the XIII century. The listeners will learn about what goals the knights pursued, moving east, and what the battle turned out to be for them.

Among the participants of the lecture will be students of St. Petersburg State University, Russian State Pedagogical University named after A. I. Herzen, as well as the Leningrad State University named after A. S. Pushkin.
