Film screening night on the Presidential Library website

Along the line of the “Biblionight” All-Russian Annual Festival the Presidential Library announces online film screening night from the 21st to the 22nd of April 2017 on www.prlib.ru.

The “Biblionight’s” theme this year is “A new perusal.” The organizers of the action suggest to look at the world and creative process by the means of modern technologies, and also to evaluate its impact in the development of cultural institutions. “Biblionight” film screening will start on April 21 at 9 pm MSK and will last until 6 am the next day.

The night of film screenings will open with “3 Senate Square” a documentary, telling about the establishment of the Presidential Library and its workflow. The film's authors paid special attention to the history of the building of the Holy Synod, in which premises the Presidential Library is now accommodated. Also, it is planned to shown a new documentary movie, shot by the filmmakers of the Presidential Library, named “Graffiti of St. Sophia Cathedral of Veliky Novgorod.” This is the first part of a four-series cycle about graffiti in Novgorod churches. The main character of this movie is Savva Mikheyev, PhD in Historical Sciences, Senior Researcher of the Department of Typology and Comparative Linguistics of the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, tells about the significance of graffiti drawings and inscriptions of the XI-XV centuries. It denotes the role of Veliky Novgorod as the most important book center of Ancient Russia, the center of literacy and written culture. Drawings and graffiti were preserved on the walls in many ancient temples of Novgorod and its outskirts, but most of them were found in the St. Sophia Cathedral.

In addition, other films about Veliky Novgorod and unique exhibits of the Novgorod Museum, created by the video production studio of the Presidential Library jointly with the Novgorod State National Park and Museum will be screened. Two parts of the documentary entitled “The Russian Fleet off the coast of America”, dedicated to the history of Russian-American relations, will be shown. In both movies a complex in terms of political situation period of 1863-1866 will be touched upon. The history of the relations between the two powers will always be of interest of both - our contemporaries and future generations.

Biblionight is an annual festival of reading and literature, which is being held in support of the libraries since 2012. The library community of Moscow and the Association of Cultural Managers (AMK) initiated the action back then. Within the framework of this festival libraries throughout the country extend a time and a format of their work: they organize lectures and open public readings, theatrical performances and concerts, exhibitions, as well as meetings with contemporary authors. The organizers of the action “Biblinoch-2017” are the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the “Kultura.RF” Internet resource of cultural heritage and traditions of Russia. This year the festival will be held in Russia for the sixth time.
