Creative heritage of the famous sculptor A. S. Charkin — at the multimedia exhibition of the Presidential Library

A multimedia exhibition focused on work of the famous sculptor Albert Serafimovich Charkin will open in the Presidential Library (3 Senate Square, St. Petersburg, RF 190000) on December 14, 2017, at 2:30 pm MSK.

This exposition is timed to the 80th anniversary of the birth of the People’s Artist of Russia, the chairman of the Board of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation, a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts, a former rector of the St. Petersburg State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture I. E. Repin (2001—2009).

The monumental works of A. S. Charkin currently adorn many parks, streets and squares in different cities of Russia and around the world. Among the works of the sculptor is a sculpture portrait of Peter the Great at the Moscow railway station in St. Petersburg, the monument to Alexander III in Irkutsk, F. M. Apraksin in Vyborg, the monument to G. I. Nevelskoy in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the cross in the memory of Russian and Serbian soldiers in Belgrade, sculptural compositions “Morning of Life,” “Prometheus” and “Ba Yun” in China, decorative fountain “Mermaid” in Germany and many others.

Owing to cutting edge digital technologies, guests of the Presidential Library will get a chance to get a holistic view of the work of Albert Serafimovich: images from the most remote corners of the world will literally “come to life” the screens, detailed annotations, introducing the history of each work, will accompany displayed slides.

After the opening of the virtual exposition, it is planned to watch a documentary entitled “Albert Charkin… Faces of history” created by Alexander Sorokin, as well as to take guests to a sightseeing tour of the Presidential Library.

 

The exhibition will be shown in electronic format on the panels of the multimedia level of the Presidential Library and will last up to January 14, 2018. The exposition can be visited independently during the regular business hours of the electronic reading room of the Presidential Library (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, 11 am — 6:30 pm), and also as part of the sightseeing tour over the Presidential Library (please, call us in advance (812) 334-25-14 or email to make an appointment: excursion@prlib.ru).
