The Presidential Library will host the traditional Arctic Day

February 28, 2018 the Presidential Library will host a series of scientific and educational events dedicated to the Arctic Day. The events will begin at 10:00 and will be broadcasted live on the Presidential Library portal in the section "Live Broadcast".

The plenary session will, in particular, highlight the history of drifting stations - from the origin of the idea to the first expedition - on the basis of I. D. Papanin's diary entries. In addition, the participants of the Arctic expeditions will tell about the structure of the drifting stations and the research conducted on them. The museum project "Development of the North" will be also presented, and at the end of the meeting the co-chairman of the Association of Arctic Media Alexander Potekhin will deliver his experience in information support of projects in the Arctic.

On the same day, a video lecture "Knowledge of Russia" will be held: "The Arctic and the North: Resources, Economics, Science", a multimedia lesson "Nuclear Icebreaking Fleet", the Presidential Library cinema club, where the film "The Main Directorate of the Northern Sea Route. Pages of History" will be shown. Also within the framework of the Arctic Day there will be held a master class on watercolor "Northern Landscape", which will be held by the chairman of the board of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists, academician of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts Alexander Saikov.

The Arctic Day is a traditional event held at the end of February in the Presidential Library. The aim of the project is to promote Russian science, culture and education in the Arctic countries, to support the country's positive image in the states of the circumpolar region, to promote Arctic research in the framework of developing educational activities in accordance with world trends, as well as to promote, support and strengthen the positions of the Russian language, which constitutes the development of the Arctic strategy of the Russian Federation, the approval of the Arctic as a zone of peaceful interaction and cooperation.

The program of events of the Arctic Day:

10:00–11:45   Plenary session (multimedia halls C + D).

12:00–13:30  Video lecture from the series "Knowledge of Russia" - "Arctic and North: Resources, Economics, Science" (multimedia halls C + D).

13:00–14:00   Multimedia lesson "Nuclear icebreaking fleet" (multimedia hall B).

15:00–16:15   The film "The Main Directorate of the Northern Sea Route. Pages of History" within the framework of the Presidential Library Cinema Club (multimedia hall B).

15:00–17.00  Master-class on watercolor "Northern Landscape" (multimedia hall A).

Please, note, that the entrance to the Presidential Library is carried out only upon prior request and upon showing a passport: participants and guests of the event go through entrance № 1, representatives of the media go through entrance № 2.
