Alexei Mikhailovich (1629–1676)
The collection marks the 395th anniversary of the birth of the second Russian Tsar from the House of Romanov - Alexei Mikhailovich “The Quietest”. It includes research, archival documents, memoirs, including writings by foreigners about Russia in the 17th century as well as visual materials. They are dedicated to the domestic and foreign policies of Alexei Mikhailovich, revealing the cultural features of the life of the tsar and his entourage. An important place in the collection belongs to editions of the Council Code of 1649 and its regional extracts, historical works on the uprisings of the era of Alexei Mikhailovich and studies that shed light on the relations of the tsar with Patriarch Nikon and Archpriest Avvakum.
The collection is based on the materials from Russian and foreign archives (Russian State Historical Archive, Scientific Archive of the Russian Geographical Society), scientific institutions (St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences), central and regional libraries (Russian State Library, State Public Historical Library, Moscow Regional State Scientific Library), higher educational institutions (St. Petersburg State University, Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, Omsk State Pedagogical University, North Caucasus Federal University), museums and cultural foundations(Tobolsk State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve), Russian Book Chamber, Children's Postcard Museum (St. Petersburg) as well as private collections.
