The History of Moscow: Exhibition «Moscow in photographs of the 1860s — 1900s. ”Travelling across the Russian Empire” series» underway in St. Petersburg

The exhibition «Moscow in photographs of 1860s — 1900s. ”Travelling across the Russian Empire” series» is opening on July 4 2018 at the Stroganov Palace (The State Russian Museum, St. Petersburg).

The collection of the Russian Museum features unique visual series, which represent the photographic image of Moscow between the 1860s and early 1900s in a versatile way. They were created by famous photo studios and celebrated photographers: «Schehrer, Nabgolz and Co», «The Russian photography in Moscow», A. Rheinbott, I. Barschevsky, I. Alexandrov, M. Nastyukov, M. Panov, Ye. Simonov, K. Fischer, S. Baranov, T. Mitreiter etc. The pictures portray the monuments of Moscow architecture, which had disappeared, along with the existing landmarks of the ancient capital, their former location, past architectural forms and use.  

Two hundred historical images of Moscow, which went on public display for the first time, continue the series of photographic retrospective of the Russian Museum’s collection «Travelling across the Russian Empire» and celebrate the 870th anniversary of Moscow.
