History of Moscow: Printed music of late 19th — early 21st cc. presented at the exhibition “What a beautiful city you are!” timed to coincide with the upcoming Moscow City Day

16 August 2018

The Russian State Library Printed Music and Sound Recordings Department (Moscow) has opened the exhibition “What a beautiful city you are!”, timed to coincide with the Moscow City Day celebrations (this year scheduled for September 8). On display is a wide variety of printed music of late 19th — early 21st cc, which show the attitude of Moscow residents to their native city, and represent the festive mood of “joyful Moscow”.

It was soon after the celebration of 850th  anniversary of the foundation of Moscow in 1997, that the City Day became an annual event, which since then has been celebrated on the first weekend of September.

Moscow has always loved having fun. Its residents went to theatres, concerts, restaurants, parks, gardens, attended ballet performances and running competitions, where music played the leading role.

In the Printed Music and Sound Recordings Department you can study publications dedicated to Moscow and listen to favourite songs by famous singers.

The exhibition will run until September 30.
