The project of the virtual State Russian Museum "Catherine the Great in Russia and Abroad" features important events in the Russian history of the second half of the XVIII century, showcasing more than 300 pieces of art.

The virtual tour is based on the temporary exhibition with the same name held at the State Russian Museum from February 15 to May 28, 2018, as part of the long-term project "The Saga of the Romanov Dynasty". The tour provides digital copies and additional information about paintings and graphic works, sculptures, porcelain and glass items, crafts, costumes and medals from the collections of the State Russian Museum, the State Historical Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Hermitage Museum, and Pavlovsk and Peterhof Museum Reserves, and other museums, as well as private collections. The stories about the most significant works are featured by an audio guide. The virtual tour contains ceremonial and intimate portraits of Catherine II and her contemporaries, painted by Russian and foreign painters, drawings and engravings with episodes of the Russian-Turkish wars, caricatures of foreign artists, presenting foreign policy of the Russian Empress.

Besides the paintings and graphics, the tour provides an opportunity to learn the details of the commemorative medals glorifying Catherine II and her associates, the "Arabesque" dinner set by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, as well as dinner sets by Franz Gardner factory, uniform dresses, furniture sets, and many other rare exhibits.
