Memorable Dates of Russia: Book and illustrative exhibition "How It Was: Marking the 40th Anniversary of the 1980 Summer Olympics" presented in Saint-Petersburg

12 July 2020

The book and illustrative exhibition "How It Was: Marking the 40th Anniversary of the 1980 Summer Olympics" was opened in the Main Building of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg).

The exhibition features the most interesting publications from the collections of the National Library of Russia devoted to the 1980 Summer Olympics.

Rare books, Russian and foreign periodicals, and colourful albums illustrate the preparation for the Games and the most significant events of the 1980 Summer Olympics. One of the sections is devoted to the winners of the Moscow Games.

The exposition also spotlights the participation of other cities in the Olympics. They hosted the preliminary stages and quarter-finals of the Olympic football tournament and a sailing regatta.

A significant part of the exhibition's publications features the Moscow Olympics boycott caused by the introduction of Soviet troops in Afghanistan in 1979.

The exposition is enriched by well-illustrated albums about the 1980 Summer Olympics design, as well as brand souvenirs.

The exhibition will run until July 20.
