Internet and History: Federal Archival Agency website released the collection "Japanese war prisoners in the USSR (1945-1956)"

The Federal Archive Agency website released the collection of archival documents "Japanese war prisoners in the USSR (1945-1956)". It was prepared by Rosarkhiv and the Russian State Military Archive with the participation of the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, the Foreign Policy Archive of the Russian Federation. The collection includes more than 160 documents and photographs describing the fate of Japanese war prisoners from the moment of their capture in August 1945 to November 1956, when their repatriation was completed.

The project presents a set of documents from the Main Directorate for War Prisoners and Internees and the Main Directorate of the Rear Services of the Red Army, featuring the process of deporting Japanese prisoners from Manchuria to the Far East, Eastern Siberia and other regions of the USSR. There are published lists of war prisoners, correspondence on the organization and plans of their deporting, documents about their work in various spheres of the national economy.

The collection includes rare documents, photographs and drawings from the collection "Anti-Fascist Department of the Political Department of the Main Directorate for War Prisoners of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR", illustrating the everyday life, education and leisure of war prisoners.
