History and Culture: Exhibition "Altai - the Land of Religions" presented in the Altai State Local Lore Museum

2 March 2021

The exhibition "Altai - the Land of Religions" is presented in the Altai State Local Lore Museum in Barnaul.

Altai is a multinational region with a rich history and traditions. Learning the regional culture, in any case, raises the interest in the life philosophy of peoples living here since ancient times.

For the first time, the single exhibition represents a museum collection, which introduces the cultic practices and religions of the Altai peoples. Its main sections reflect spiritual ideas of Old Believers, Orthodox Christians, Catholics, Baptists, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, as well as the ancient religion of the indigenous peoples of Altai - shamanism.

The exhibits of particular interest are the icons of the XVIII-XIX centuries, including the Suzun icon, church manuscripts, Old Believers' copper and bronze castings of the XIX century and expressive shaman attributes. The exposition also features photographs of religious and cultic rites and the sacred buildings of Barnaul and Altai Territory.

The exhibition will run until May 30, 2021.
