International Events: Moscow to host the "Treasures of Akrotiri" exhibition timed to the Year of the History of Russia and Greece

2021 was announced the Year of the History of Russia and Greece. It marks the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the national struggle for independence of Greece. On June 20, 2021, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) and the Ministry of Culture of Greece launched the exhibition "Treasures of Akrotiri".

The exposition shows unique antique pieces of the XVIII-XVII centuries BC, preserved under a thick ash cover after a volcanic eruption on the island of Santorini. Ancient frescoes, ceramics and artefacts testify to the extraordinarily high level of development of the Aegean civilization. It is the first time when they are presented to the Russian public. Many of them have never left Greece.
