World History and Culture: Exhibition “Qatar between the Sea and the Desert. Art and Heritage" presented in Saint-Petersburg

The Russian Ethnographic Museum (Saint-Petersburg) launched the exhibition “Qatar between the Sea and the Desert. Art and Heritage". It is the key project of the cultural program of the State of Qatar, the guest country of the XXIV Saint-Petersburg International Economic Forum. The exhibition project, arranged by the Cultural Creative Agency, will run until August 22, 2021.

The exposition includes about 200 items from the collections of the National Museum of Qatar, the private Museum of Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani and Mathaf: The Arab Museum of Modern Art. The exhibits originate from the XVII-XX centuries. They create a comprehensive idea of the different periods of Qatari history and culture.

The presented artefacts are associated with the history of the peninsula, its amazing nature, the appearance of the first settlements among the sands and cultural and historical contacts of Qatar with various regions of the world. The main exhibition sections spotlight such activities as pearl fishing and falcon hunting. The exposition also showcases religious manuscripts, military equipment, traditional carpets, musical instruments, household items, clothing and jewellery.

The exhibition represents the rich heritage of Qatar. It allows discovering the common features of its culture with the traditions of the peoples of Russia. It is available in the Marble Hall of the Russian Ethnographic Museum. Besides, the museum provides an extensive lecture program with the participation of leading Russian experts.
