Regions of Russia: The exhibition, marking the 95th anniversary of Leningrad Region and the 65th anniversary of the Rozhdestveno Memorial Estate, presented in St. Petersburg

1 August 2022

The exhibition This is Rozhdestveno, dedicated to the estate of writer Vladimir Nabokov, has opened in the Smolny regional exhibition hall (St. Petersburg).

The name of the exposition comes from Vladimir Nabokov’s poem From the Grey North, written under the inspiration from the images of familiar to the writer places.

The exhibition is dedicated to the two significant dates: the 95th anniversary of Leningrad Region and the 65th anniversary of the Rozhdestveno Memorial Estate. Visitors will have an opportunity to not only learn more about the identity of Vladimir Nabokov, but also explore the history of Rozhdestveno village and estate that are reflected in Nabokov’s works.

The main feature of the exhibition is a chance to come in touch with the world of beauty: guests will try working at the tall desk and solving chess problems created by Nabokov, will see Christmas landscapes by sitting in the garden chair, as it was done in the late XIX century, will appreciate object installations of “living” architectural fragments of the “Nabokov’s lands”.

The estate in Rozhdestveno, the last owner of which was Vladimir Nabokov, is under the reconstruction until 2024. Specialists will restore the architectural image of the estate of the late XIX – early XX century.
