For the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory: the largest database of the Soviet prisoners of war available in Internet
The relatives of the citizens of the Soviet Union and Germany died during the Second World War have a possibility to learn their destiny using a database available in Internet from November 16. According to the Ministry of Science of the federal land of Saxony the websites www.dokst.de and www.dokst.ru present in German and Russian languages respectively about 700 thousand notes with personal data of the Soviet prisoners of war most of whom died in Germany.
Another published card index includes the data of about 10 thousand Germans condemned by the Soviet military tribunals during the war and after its end. According to epd agency the majority of them are already rehabilitated. However in 85% of cases the relatives are not aware of it.
Every note indicates the name, the place of birth and the dates of birth and death of a person. The additional information can be obtained on sending an inquiry to the Documentation Center under “Saxony memorials to the victims of political terror” association.
Dresden Documentation Center of “Saxony memorials” has been working on this project since the year 2000. Constantly renewed and at the present the largest database in the world of the Soviet prisoners of war in Germany was created with support of the governments of Russia, Ukraine and Belorussia.
