Internet resources: Germany’s national domain appears world leader in number of registrations

According to recent information, released by national domain registries, German domain .de has once again become the world leader in the number of registrations among national domains, and thus overtaken the Chinese domain .cn. According to CNNIC, responsible for operating and administering China’s domain name registry, from December, 31 2009 due to registration restriction, the number of domains has been constantly decreasing. Thus, by December, 31 it announced 13 459 133 domains, a month later the number decreased to 12 280 081, whereas by February, 28 it reached 9 535 120.

Meanwhile DENIC, the manager of the .de domain, reported that by April, the number of domains, registered in .de zone amounted 3 13 562 192.

Among five leading national domain zones are: .de, .cn, .uk (the UK - 8 289 784), .nl (the Netherlands - 3 815 698), and .eu (the European Union - 3 251 348).

According to latest data 2 741 845 domains have been registered in .ru zone, 93 047 in .su zone. Whereas .com zone remains the world leader in the number of registered domains with 86 237 181 domains (on April, 4 2010).
