Russian libraries: New equipment in Vladivostok libraries
According to press service of Vladivostok administration, municipal libraries has for the first time in their practice acquired book readers – electronic device for reading books.
Devices, able to contain about 1000 digitized editions, optimize the employees’ work, economize the space in libraries’ repositories, make books handling easier for users.
‘One thousand books usually occupy three big stacks, - says Olga Zabelina, MUK ‘Vladivostok Centralized Library System’ director. – Libraries cannot boast of spacious facilities and book readers will help to economize space. Besides, electronic devices for book reading will make library fund more mobile. Users often order a certain amount of books and we need to transport editions from one library of the city to another. Owing to a book reader it will be possible to transport few hundreds of books at a time’.
It is to be noted, that public libraries of Primorsky Krai obtained these devices for the first time. At the present there are six book readers in municipal libraries of Vladivostok. Employees of MUK ‘Vladivostok Centralized Library System’ are occupied with their “filling” – they digitize the most asked-for and rare editions of the holdings. In the nearest future municipal libraries patrons will have access not just to printed but also to electronic books.
