Education: Omsk State Agrarian University called after Pyotr Stolypin
Omsk State Agrarian University now bears the name of Pyotr Stolypin. Such a proposal was made by the university’s student council. The idea was supported by the Governor of the region Leonid Polezhaev during one of the meetings with the university’s students and the staff.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the university’s founder, has already prepared all papers necessary to call Omsk State Agrarian University after Pyotr Stolypin. The Ministry of Culture of Omsk Region has also approved a draft of the bronze monument to Pyotr Stolypin that would be erected on the university’s campus. Funds needed for the monument’s installation and production are collected by “Pyotr Stolypin Foundation for Russian Culture Development”.
Omsk State Agrarian University – is the father of higher agrarian education behind Urals. Until 1994 at that time Omsk Agrarian Institute had borne the name of Sergei Kirov that was “erased” as the institute turned into the university. The university did not suffer from this. Over 60 000 university graduates were professionally recognized not only in Siberia, but far beyond its borders. They include world-known scholars and specialists possessing high international, state awards and awards in different branches. The university’s staff includes about 800 lecturers, including 123 Doctors of Sciences, professors and 400 Candidates of Sciences. Over 10 000 students, 60% have come from rural areas, study at the agrarian university.
The university’s student and academic councils believe that the name of Pyotr Stolypin fully reflects the core profile orientation of the university and corresponds to its status as one of the oldest educational institutions in Siberia.
