History of Russia: III All-Russian Conference on Revival of Small Historic Towns and Villages in Pskov

4-5 August 2011 the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Pskov Region Administration jointly with the Russian Association of Restorers hold in the city of Pskov III All-Russian Conference "Preservation and Revival of Small Historic Towns and Rural Settlements: Challenges and Prospects." The Conference Organizing Committee is headed by the governor of the Pskov region Andrew Turchak and Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Konstantin Cherepennikov.

The conference is attended by about one hundred and fifty people - they are representatives of ministries and departments, administrations of Russian Federation, bodies of protection of monuments of culture and tourism departments, users of cultural heritage sites, directors of museums-reserves, managers of the restoration, design companies, travel agencies, NGOs.

The conference program consists of plenary and sectional meetings. They discuss issues of legal and methodological support for the preservation and revival of small historic towns, the practical problems and the development of restoration. Particular attention is paid to the topic of preparation and celebration of the 1150th anniversary of the Russian statehood in the North-West Federal District, which was also discussed by the Association of Economic Interaction of the North-West Russia. In addition, there is offered an extensive cultural program and sightseeing in Izborsk and Pskov.

III All-Russian conference in Pskov is a continuation of similar activities. The first two conferences were held in towns of Staraya Ladoga and Staraya Russa in 2009 and 2010. In the future it is planned to continue the cycle of conferences in a variety of small historic towns of the Russian Federation.
