IT and Science: “Science” journal digital archive now available in Russia

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has announced that the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation has chosen Science Classic (digital archive of journal’s articles spanning the period between 1880 and 1996) to be its first acquisition as a part of a large-scale project which aims to provide a nationwide access to academic archives. Russian students, research fellows and teachers will get access to “Science” academic journal archive for the past 116 years on the national platform, developed by the National Electronic Information Consortium. The project of the Ministry, approved in summer 2011 to establish academic archive in the Russian Federation, will open digital archives to 600 non-profit and research institutions. “We are happy that this major project has been launched with a purchase of Science Classic journal archive”, – said Dr. Olga Moskaleva, the Head of Research Department of St. Petersburg State University. “This journal has always been popular, and we are glad to get access to its full content beginning from the 1880 issue”. Russian scientists and research fellows will be able to search both archives of Science Online (1997 – present day) and Science Classic (1880–1996.), and the complete content catalogue of Science journals via the National Electronic Information Consortium.

Science Classic archive, which is supported and preserved by AAAS, offers full-text access to news, comments, reviews, concepts and peer-reviewed academic articles for more than a century from the annals of the world’s largest academic journal. Science Classic offers full-text PDF articles, and also bibliography, papers and lists of references from each journal issue between 1880 and 1996.
