IT and Culture: Virtual Museum of Mount Athos Cultural Heritage to appear in Greece

Greece is planning to set up a Digital Museum of Mount Athos Cultural Heritage. Visitors of the virtual museum will have a chance to learn about the spiritual and everyday life of Mount Athos inhabitants, and discover the history of Athos.

3D exhibits from the digital museum’s collection will be available in two places. At the cultural center of Ierissos, which apart from traditional exhibition halls has a state-of-the-art amphitheatre for showing high-quality 3D movies.

The museum’s second branch will be at the Monastery of Zygos, which is a gate to the monastic state.

The museum’s exhibits will be distributed among the following themes: nature which surrounds monasteries, cultural treasure of each of monasteries, everyday life of monks. Here visitors will have an opportunity to learn about the architecture of monasteries, libraries, wonder-working icons etc.
