History of Saint-Petersburg: Presentation of the album “Posters of War Leningrad”
May 5, 2012 in the main building of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg) holds a presentation of the unique album “Posters of War Leningrad”.
For the first time the consolidated album presents the most completed collection of posters, created by Leningrad artists during the Great Patriotic War. Most of the posters are kept in private collections and were not known to the modern reader.
The album “Posters of War Leningrad” includes propaganda posters, formed the “golden fund” of the domestic art.
The collection is assembled and prepared for publication by the authors-compliers Alexander Shklyaruk and Alexander and Pavel Snopkovy. According to the authors, the banner graphics belong to one of the most popular types of fine art. A special page in its history was written by the Soviet political poster executed the tasks of visual propaganda and agitation. Responding to major and characteristic events of the time, the posters of the Great Patriotic War called for Homeland protection as well as convinced of justice of the liberation struggle.
