Presidential Library: New acquisitions
The Presidential Library web site continues publication of the materials, provided by the National Library of the Republic of Karelia.
Website visitors are offered a digital copy of the Memory Book of the Olonets Governorate of 1902 (Petrozavodsk, 1903) - the first release of the updated edition of Memory books of the governorate, replaced in 1870 by Olonets collections. These regional reference books contain local historical and geographical essays, a list of provincial and district government and public agencies with information about their manpower (address, calendar), information on the administrative division of the province, the postal and telegraph offices, communication lines within the province , the industrial and commercial enterprises, hospitals and pharmacies, schools, etc., as well as statistical tables showing the movement of population, the state of land tenure, agriculture, legal affairs, medical, factory industry, education, etc.
The List of officials of civil, military and other agencies of the Olonets Governorate as of the 1st January 1892 (Petrozavodsk, 1892) contains information about employees of all departments. Name, surname and patronymic or initials are given; as well as rank and title, position, information about the awards. Institutions and officials of Petrozavodsk and counties are taken into account.
The list of localities of the Olonets Governorate as of 1905 (Petrozavodsk, 1907) contains the following information: the status of the settlement, its location (in relation to the nearest city, the local court, the settlement, school, post office, with a lake, river, and etc.), the number of households, residents, families, the number of cattle in the village, the presence of churches, chapels, mills, etc.
The Collection of resolutions of the Olonets Governorate County Assembly from 1867 to 1897 (inclusive) (Petrozavodsk, 1898) contains orders of local authorities relating to public education, charity, medical parts, fire protection measures, ensuring national food, agriculture and fisheries, the research of the Olonets Governorate and Lake Onega, transportation, savings and loan associations, banks, and etc.
The Code of statistical data on artisanal and artisan crafts and earnings of the peasant population of the Olonets Governorate according to the preliminary estimates (annex to the report of the Olonets governorate district council № 120 to the regular provincial County Assembly of 1901 on the study of crafts in the Olonets Governorate) (Petrozavodsk, 1901) provides background information on each trade in different districts: the total number of artisans and craftsmen working at home and elsewhere, their wages; information on women is detached.
P. A. Sokolovskiy’s Essay on the history of rural community in northern Russia (St. Petersburg, 1877) represents the data on economic history of northern farmers, mainly of the locality, which was part of the possessions of Novgorod, and after the fall of Novgorod, in the end of the 15th century, was attached to the Moscow principality under the name of Pyatinas: Votskaya Pyatina, Obonezhskaya Pyatina, Bezhetsskaya Pyatina, Derevskaya Pyatina and Shelonskaya Pyatina.
The book of the Russian ethnographer, historian and archaeologist N. N. Haruzin From the materials collected from the peasants of the Pudozh County, the Olonets Governorate (Moscow, 1889), provides information on the ethnography, history and culture of the Pudozh.
The book of V. N. Haruzina In the North: (travel memories) (Moscow, 1890) tells of the population of the Pudozh, Lake Vodlozero - its islands, coasts and the whole Vodlozero neighborhood.
The book of F. F. Fortunatov Historical note on the fiftieth anniversary of the Olonets High School tells of public education in the region (St. Petersburg, 1858). The activities of cultural and educational institutions are reflected in the following publications: The Charter and the catalog of book of the Povenets county public library [approved by the Minister of Internal Affairs, October 18, 1878 Head of the Main Department for the Press, V. Grigoriev]. (Petrozavodsk, 1897) The systematic catalog of Alexis Petrozavodsk Public Library: up to May 1, 1872 (Petrozavodsk, 1872).
The religious side of life in the northern area of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries is reflected in the History of Vygovskaya Old Believed Desert, published on the basis of the manuscript by Ivan Filippov retaining his orthography, eleven portraits of famous Old Believers and the two types of male and female Vygovsky coenobite monasteries (St. Petersburg, 1862) and a brochure of D. Ostrovsky Tasks, activities and importance of the Orthodox Karelian Brotherhood in the name of St. George the Great Martyr and Victorious: speech at the religious and moral readings of January 24, 1910 in the Brotherhood Nazarevsky House of Petrozavodsk (Petrozavodsk, 1910).
