Libraries of Russia: Recommendations on material digitization from the collections of libraries approved at the Annual Meeting of Directors of libraries of Russia in Saint-Petersburg

On 22-23 October 2013 at the National Library of Russia at the Annual Meeting of Directors of the federal and regional central libraries of Russia as part of the meeting of the Expert Council on digital copies were approved "Guidelines for digitization of library collections".

Materials posted on the website of the NLR and can be used as teaching materials by libraries in the implementation of digitization projects. The plans of the Council include the development of evaluation criteria of scanning equipment and types of materials to be digitized.

At the Meeting was presented a specially prepared manual for assessing the quality of the libraries. In conclusion it was adopted a draft of the outcome document.

The meeting was held the National Library of Russia and the Russian State Library on behalf of the Ministry of Culture of Russia.

The meeting was attended by about 300 representatives from 73 regions. On the agenda - key public policy issues in the field of librarianship.

As part of the meeting it was first held an open meeting of the working group for the development of the National Digital Library under the direction of the Secretary of State – the Deputy Minister of Culture of Russia Grigory Ivliev.
