World history: The exhibition “On both sides” dedicated to the First World War in Saint-Petersburg
The State Museum and Exhibition Centre ROSPHOTO from 5 September 2014 presents in St. Petersburg, a unique exhibition project "On both sides", which gives an opportunity to look at the First World War through the eyes of members of opposition –Russian and German artillery officers. The exhibition presents photographs of military photo albums, stored in the holdings of ROSPHOTO.
These are amateur photos from album of captain of the Life Guards of the 1st Artillery Brigade Platon Nikolayevich Alekseev (1882-1952), who survives a military way since the first days of fighting before the events that took place in the Russian army after the February Revolution of 1917.
The second part of the exhibition features photos taken "on the other side of the front", telling about the everyday life of frontline officers of the German army. We are talking about a photo album that belonged to the lieutenant of the 2nd Bavarian Field Artillery Regiment Karl Johannes Conrad Strauss.
In full, albums can be seen at the exhibition in electronic form. Specially for the exhibition is prepared an electronic project "On the eve of" devoted to the life of the Russian Empire in 1913, on the eve of the First World War.
