The Presidential Library: New acquisitions

The Presidential Library collection has been enriched with materials provided by the Tyumen Regional Scientific Library.

New acquisitions include publications dedicated to the life and work of Peter the Great and Catherine II.

-Peter I

Work of Russian historian, Professor A. G. Brickner "Illustrated History of Peter the Great" is dedicated to the person of the emperor, the political and spiritual life of Russia during the reign of Peter I, Peter's reforms and their implications for the consolidation of Russian statehood. Illustrative publications include a number of portraits of the emperor and his associates, views of cities, buildings, locations, costumes and everyday scenes of Peter's era. Volume 1 (St. Petersburg, 1902) tells of a child Peter I, the crisis of 1682, the beginning of the regency of Sophia, its board and the fall of the Azov campaigns of Peter, about his traveling abroad, about the beginning of reforms, riot musketeers 1689, at about the riots in the south-east and the fate of Tsarevich Alexei. Volume 2 (St. Petersburg, 1903) provides information about diplomatic relations on the eve of the Great Northern War, the Battle of Narva, on the Battle of Poltava, on the war in Finland, the Baltic region and in Finland, on the Prut campaign in 1711, the adoption of Peter imperial title, about the changes in the internal policies of the associates of Peter the Great.   

Life and work of Peter I is described in a multivolume work devoted to the Russian scientist and writer V. G. Bergman "The History of Peter the Great". Six volumes of the publication describe the internal and external policy of Russia epoch of Peter. In V. 1: a portrait of Peter the Great (St. Petersburg, 1840) covers developments in Russia before Peter I and 1700 V. 2: a portrait of Karl XII (St. Petersburg, 1840) is devoted to events from 1700 to 1709. (the first period of the Great Northern War, the founding of St. Petersburg). In V. 3: a portrait of Count Patkul (St. Petersburg, 1840) describes the events from 1709 to 1715. (the Prut campaign in 1711, a crucial period of the Northern War - the Battle of Poltava, Gangut naval battle of 1714). V. 4: with a portrait of Prince Menshikov (St. Petersburg, 1841) is devoted to the events from 1715 to 1720. (the final period of the war). In V. 5: a portrait of the prince Romodanovsky (St. Petersburg, 1841) describes the events from 1720 to 1724. (peace negotiations, Treaty of Nystad, the outcome of the war). V. 6: a portrait of General Lefort, Field Marshal Sheremetev and maps of the theater of war Peter I with Karl XII (St. Petersburg, 1841) is devoted to the events of 1725 – death of Peter I and the succession to the throne. The characteristic of the emperor, the assessment of its activities and biographical news of the emperor's contemporaries is provided.

To the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava by a full member of the Imperial Russian military-historical society P. M. Andrianov was drawn sketch of Peter and Poltava (St. Petersburg, 1909) which describes the activities of Peter I aimed at the transformation in the military sphere, influenced the positive outcome of the Battle of Poltava.

-Catherine II

The first time on the so-called complete works of the Empress is the publication by A. F. Smirdin 1849-1850s. (V. 1). This volume contains the following works: the mandate of the commission drafting the new Code, Civil initial teaching, proverbs, tales, comic opera and comedy.

Literary works of the Empress (comedy, opera, fairy tales, satirical articles and etc.) are published by A. N. Vedensky in 1893.

Literary works of the Empress of the pedagogical, ethical and satirical nature, are also included in the edition of 1894, edited by A. N. Chudinov. The book includes four explanatory article by N. A. Lavrovsky, A. D. Galakhov, P. K. Schebalsky and J. K. Groth, considering the works - "There were tall tales" and the comedy "About time!", as well as giving a general characteristic of the author.

The preparation of new materials will be continued.
