International initiatives: The first in Russia center of Francophone countries was opened in the Library of Foreign Literature

In the main building of the M. I. Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow was opened United Center in the first French-speaking countries "Frankoteka". It will provide lectures, film screenings, workshops, concerts, scientific seminars, round tables with participation of famous figures of culture, literature and art of French-speaking countries.

Foreign Literature Library was not chosen by chance, its collection is about 250 thousand books in French, and with institution it have long been operating cultural centers of different countries.

It is worth noting that the Center already has its own book collection, consisting of 11 thousand books. It is a gift of the French Institute, functioning in Moscow. In addition, the Film Foundation "Frankoteka" added several hundred unique paintings. With the mediation of the Canadian Embassy in the Russian Federation it was given the collection of Canadian films taken in French.

"French language - it is not just the official languages of the UN, it is approximately 30 countries, where it is either the State or one of the constituent. This is a huge world", - said in a conversation with journalists, Minister of Culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky, having noted the special role of the French language in Russian culture.
